the pavillion - alterations and additons

The Pavilion project stands as one of our landmark projects from two decades ago, its presence still resonating with natural flair. Anchored amidst a serene suburban setting, the original site was graced by a mid-century modernist home, its backyard unfolding into the vast embrace of parkland.

Our clients envisioned an extension to their home, desiring both additional bedroom and studio spaces. The goal was not just to add rooms, but to craft spaces that harmoniously blended with the verdant parkland environment beyond their backyard.

The original house sat intriguingly angled relative to its boundaries, presenting us with a canvas ripe for architectural innovation. This unique positioning paved the way for designing spaces that were not just functional but also aesthetically captivating.

Collaborating closely with our clients, we sculpted a pavilion-inspired design that maximized the property's rear outlook. But the key intervention was a new ante entrance space: a transitional area nestled between the old and the new sections of the home, a space with blurred edges neither entirely an indoor space, nor outdoor. This vestibule didn't just serve as an entryway but as central, light filled family hub to the home, messing the original structure into the newly minted pavilion.

The Pavilion is not just an architectural feat; it's a testament to our commitment to honouring the essence of a site while introducing innovative design. Two decades later, it remains a great reminder of what's possible when nature, responsive architecture, and client vision converge.
